Meet Our Team

Steve attended the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in Construction Management. Upon graduation, Steve worked for a few local builders and became frustrated with the reproduction of designs and in environment that did not inspire creativity. Steve then worked for Babcock and Wilcox (B&W) a global engineering, construction, controls and equipment manufacturer based locally in Akron, OH. While Steve was enjoying his time at B&W and gaining increasing levels of responsibility, he still had a passion for home building. That’s when Steve and his dad, since retired, decided to form SEM Construction as 50/50 partners. Since that time Steve has left B&W and is majority owner of SEM. Steve is also the creative eye behind all of SEM Construction’s builds. Steve’s unique vision, passion for quality and attention to detail combine to create a culture in SEM that puts the customer first. Don’t take our word for it. Mike graduated with a degree in Business Management from Walsh University and holds an MBA from the University of Akron. He is a non-practicing CPA in the State of Ohio. Upon graduation, Mike went to work for Babcock and Wilcox ultimately holding the title of Director, Human Capital Development.

After retiring in 2011, Mike joined Steve as a partner in SEM Construction. Mike has a similar passion for creative designs and building homes that will inspire our customers. Today, Mike is minority owner of SEM and CFO. Mike is attune to the project budgets and financial reporting on all of SEM builds and helps deliver value to the customer within their desired budget. Mike has also formed great relationships with local banks and our trade partners making the building process a little easier for our customers.

Judy, or “JuJu” as she is so affectionately known by her grandchildren and around SEM, spent 30 years teaching first grade for Springfield Local Schools at Young Elementary and raised 3 successful sons.

When Steve and Mike formed the business Judy’s motherly instinct kicked in and she was anxious to help wherever she could. Judy has done everything from touch up paint to end of project clean up. Today Judy continues to do whatever it takes to make sure the details are right for the customer.

Nathan's love for home building is evident just after a couple of interactions with him. Besides being a gifted carpenter who watches videos in his spare time to evaluate new construction techniques, research tools, or learn about a new materials, he is also very organized, dedicated and honest. Nathan is a graduate from the Construction Trades program in Stark County and spent his first years out of school framing homes and then went into remodeling. He joined the SEM team in 2020 and has been a valuable member ever since.
